Abu Dhabi unveils new park in Khalifa City

Al Masar Park has a 2.1-kilometre jogging track and features 2,841 trees, 58,000 shrubs, and ground-cover plants

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has officially opened Al Masar park in Khalifa City.

 The park provides additional amenities for leisure and entertainment, aligning with DMT’s strategy to increase green spaces and public facilities to enhance the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.

The project is in line with Abu Dhabi’s urban development plans.

It promotes sustainable development and delivering qualitative projects that position the emirate as a preferred destination for living, working, and visiting.

Highlights of Al Masar Park

The new public facility offers a wide range of facilities and amenities, including a multi-purpose sports playground equipped with spotlights and featuring beach volleyball, badminton, and basketball courts.

The grounds have a 2.1-kilometre jogging track and are adorned with 2,841 trees, 58,000 shrubs, and ground cover plants.

Additionally, it features parking lots with a capacity for up to 97 cars, including four designated spaces for individuals with disabilities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Dr Salem Al Kaabi, DG of Operational Affairs at the DMT, Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, DG of Abu Dhabi City Municipality, and Hamad Al-Mutawa, ED of Operations Affairs Sector at DMT. 

Other great parks in and around Abu Dhabi

Sheikha Fatima Park: Located in the heart of the city, the park covers an area of 46,000 square metres.

It offers a range of sporting activities, retail sites, event space, an outdoor cinema, art maze and dining experiences.

Al Hayer Oasis: This 2,337 square metre recreational space in Al Ain last week offers recreational fun times, acres of green space and nursery crop cultivation.

Umm Al Emarat Park: The park features an amphitheatre, petting zoo, alfresco cinema, botanical garden, a wisdom garden (because you’re never too zen to wise up) and a miniature train tour.

Khalifa Park: This centrally-located park features verdant grounds and relaxing water features. It also has an aquarium, Maritime Museum, a library and a splash park.

Al Fay Park: Located on Al Reem Island and featuring 27,500 square metres of greenery, with over 2,000 types of plants, the park recreates a forest environment.

Facilities here include mini-golf holes, table tennis, courts for badminton, basketball, volleyball and football, skate zones and a climbing wall.

Delma Park: This free public park has green expanses, sports area, jogging track, mini football field and a basketball court.

Corniche Parks (Family Park, Lake Park, Urban Park, Formal Park, Heritage Park): These free parks are located along Abu Dhabi’s Corniche. Each features a different theme, offering something for everyone – from greenery to leisure activities.

Jubail Mangrove Park: Thirty minutes away from Abu Dhabi city, this is a haven for avian and marine species native to Abu Dhabi with its lush mangrove forests that separate the sea and shore.

The area has sprawling boardwalks that wind through the mangroves and you can catch glimpses of the park’s inhabitants, including turtles, herons and gazelles. This is a great place for birdwatchers, nature lovers and photographers.

Mangrove National Park: Protected by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, this scenic area makes up almost 75 per cent of the total mangrove forest area in the UAE. This bio diverse destination has salt marshes, mudflats and algal communities.

Al Ain Oasis: Al Ain Oasis is a scenic retreat spread across 1,200 hectares in the ‘Green City’ of Al Ain, also a UNESCO Cultural Site.

This stunning oasis has more than 147,000 date palm trees and over 100 different varieties of vegetation. It also features the ancient irrigation system known as ‘falaj’.
