The ambitious development, awarded to Gulf Contractors Company, was unveiled during the World Utilities Congress, reported state news agency, WAM. The project will include the construction of a 9.5-kilometre gravity-driven wastewater pipeline and the decommissioning of several pumping stations. This shift is expected to reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions. Upon completion, the system will boost the area’s hydraulic capacity to 120,000 cubic metres per day, accommodating the needs of the fast-growing communities in Al Bahia, Al Sadr, Al Shaleila, and Taweelah, the report stated. TAQA aims to enable long-term water security “This project embodies our proactive approach to ensuring long-term water security while embracing a circular economy,” said Engineer Ahmed Al Shamsi, managing director and CEO of TAQA Water Solutions. “We are transforming wastewater into a valuable resource and investing in sustainable infrastructure to safeguard future generations.” The project is being developed in partnership with key stakeholders, including Aldar, the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, and the Department of Municipalities and Transport.
