Home Covid-19 Abu Dhabi receives new fleet of temperature-controlled vehicles for Covid-19 vaccine transport The vehicles are expected to boost vaccine delivery capabilities to over 1.1 million doses a day by Iman Hussain May 6, 2021 Abu Dhabi Ports have acquired 11 specialised refrigerated vehicles through its s subsidiary, MICCO Logistics, in a bid to enhance the efficiency of the UAE’s Covid-19 vaccine supply chain. The vehicles are expected to boost vaccine delivery capabilities to over 1.1 million doses a day. The fleet has been fitted with cooling equipment to support handling of vaccines at temperatures between 2°C to 8°C, as well as -80°C with the addition of specialised packaging. These additional vehicles will support the Hope Consortium, an Abu Dhabi-led public-private partnership that was developed to help solve the logistical challenge of delivering large doses of vaccines from Abu Dhabi to other destinations. The move expands its range of supply-chain solutions for delivery and its scope of services. The vehicles are also connected to Maqta Gateway’s digital blockchain-enabled solution, ‘mUnity’, which tracks the vehicles and ensures safe and timely product delivery. Robert Sutton, head of logistics sector Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “The investment in advanced technology places Abu Dhabi in a strong position to not only offer extended services to its healthcare sector partners, but also fulfil the goal of the Hope Consortium to end the pandemic and help chart a sustainable pathway to recovery.” The brand-new vehicles will be carrying everything from vaccines to pharmaceutical products to medical equipment and are equipped with advanced temperature monitoring and data loggers. The vehicles will take off from Abu Dhabi Ports’ storage facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone to healthcare centers all over the UAE.
