This innovative programme aims to provide a comprehensive range of services focused on wellness, longevity, and disease prevention for the residents of Abu Dhabi. The establishment of HLMCs represents a significant shift in healthcare strategy, moving away from a traditional, reactive model centred on treating illnesses to a proactive approach that emphasises holistic health and wellness. By utilising patient data from various platforms, including Malaffi and Ifhas, the centres will create personalised health journeys tailored to individual needs. Services will include collaborative treatment plans focused on patients’ goals, addressing lifestyle choices, medications, mental well-being, and environmental factors. Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, stated, “We remain committed to providing our community with best-in-class care, leveraging Abu Dhabi’s robust infrastructure and advanced healthcare ecosystem.” HLMCs and scope of care The HLMCs will be equipped to manage various aspects of care, including diagnostic and interventional services aimed at preventing and treating age-related conditions. They will focus on enhancing physical fitness, improving rehabilitation outcomes, and restoring health for individuals with illnesses or disabilities. Dr Rashed Obaid Al Suwaidi, executive director of the Healthcare Workforce Planning Sector at DoH, emphasised the importance of the new regulatory framework. “DoH continues to advance its pioneering regulatory framework, setting new benchmarks in healthcare. We have developed comprehensive world-class standards for HLMCs, outlining the minimum service requirements,” he said. He also invited current and prospective investors to collaborate on expanding the availability of HLMCs across Abu Dhabi’s healthcare facilities. To ensure a multidisciplinary approach to care, the DoH is also developing new licensing and qualification requirements for health coaches, lifestyle medicine specialists, and exercise physiologists as part of the standards for the Healthy Longevity Medicine Centres.
