Home UAE Abu Dhabi Electrifying road freight: Abu Dhabi, Einride join forces The initiative aims to decarbonise Abu Dhabi’s entire road freight transport by 30 per cent by 2030 by Gulf Business February 26, 2024 Image: Supplied Einride, a Swedish company specialising in electric and autonomous freight technology, has partnered with the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) to significantly electrify and automate road freight operations in the region. The initiative aims to decarbonise Abu Dhabi’s entire road freight transport by 30 per cent by 2030. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed earlier this month outlines a joint effort to deploy Einride’s full freight mobility offering in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The agreement will see large-scale deployment, including 1,000 electric heavy-duty trucks, 100 autonomous vehicles, and strategically placed charging infrastructure powered by Einride’s AI-powered freight operating system, Einride Saga. Building a network in Abu Dhabi Einride will contribute to building the Abu Dhabi portion of the Falcon Rise Grid, a 550km network spanning three emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah). The Falcon Rise grid will be developed over five years. Einride’s grid system will leverage the Einride Saga platform to optimise and monitor freight operations, remove inefficiencies, ensure uninterrupted service, and reduce emissions. Robert Ziegler, general manager EMEA at Einride, said: “With this partnership, we’ll be able to further solidify our plan of electrification across the region as it will support key work such as the shaping of incentives and policy.” This partnership marks a significant step towards decarbonising the transportation sector in the UAE and the wider region. By adopting electric and autonomous technologies, Abu Dhabi aims to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and enhance its freight logistics network.
