Abu Dhabi, Dubai launch unified parking permit system

The UAE has implemented a unified electronic platform to facilitate the issuance of parking permits for people of determination in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, aligning with the nation’s broader sustainability and digitalisation goals.

The electronic permit system enables authorised individuals to access designated parking spaces without the need for physical permits, streamlining travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The streamlined parking system across the two emirates aims to provide people with disabilities more flexibility and independence in accessing public facilities, thereby improving their quality of life and reinforcing the UAE’s dedication to innovative and advanced services.

“Since its establishment, RTA has worked to align its services and facilities to suit the needs of People of Determination according to the highest global standards, driven by its strategic goals of Customer Happiness,” said Hussain Al Banna, the CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

“The free parking services provided to them are among the RTA’s top priorities, and we would continue to develop its features to meet the aspirations of our wise leadership and serve the People of Determination in the best possible way.”

The Ministry of Community Development said the project extends benefits to individuals who possess identification cards that verify their status as people of determination. This includes all people of determination with existing paper or electronic parking permits from Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The initiative marks a significant advancement in the UAE’s digital transformation, leveraging modern technology to deliver innovative and efficient services that meet the needs of people of determination.

Abdullah Al Marzouqi, director-general of the Integrated Transport Centre – Abu Dhabi, said the unified electronic linkage represents an additional step in delivering high-quality services that meet the needs of people of determination and assist them in their daily lives.

The unified electronic platform reduces paper consumption, optimises resource management, and aligns with the project’s environmental and social sustainability objectives.

The ministry commended the collaborative efforts of all involved parties, emphasising that this initiative represents not merely a technical advancement but a new chapter that empowers people of determination to live with dignity and independence.

The unified parking system is being implemented by the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, Abu Dhabi Police, Dubai Police, Integrated Transport Centre, RTA and Parkin.
