Abu Dhabi bans entry and exit from the emirate starting June 2

Abu Dhabi has announced that it will ban movement between different regions of the emirate, as well as entry and exit from the emirate, for a period of one week starting from Tuesday, June 2.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office tweeted that the decision was reached by the Abu Dhabi Emergency and Crisis Committee for Covid-19 Pandemic in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Health (DOH).

The internal movement ban between the regions applies to all residents including nationals.

The regions between which internal movement will be restricted include Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

Residents are allowed to move within their region in line with the National Sterilisation Programme.

The National Sterilisation Programme timing are currently from 10pm-6am daily, during which movement restrictions are in place.

The media office added that there would be exemptions to the movement ban. “Exemptions are available by special permits for employees of vital sectors, chronic disease patients visiting hospitals and the transportation of necessary goods.”

However, the Abu Dhabi government has also announced an easing of restrictions within the emirate.

“In line with the National Screening Programme, Abu Dhabi Emergency and Crisis Committee for the Covid-19 Pandemic, in collaboration with DOH, has eased some restrictions on activities in the emirate, including raising the capacity in malls and restaurants inside malls to 40 per cent.”

Hotel beaches, restaurants outside malls and museums are also allowed to re-open with a capacity of 40 per cent. Public beaches, however, will remain closed.

Individual outdoor sports practiced in open spaces, such as horse riding, cricket, cycling, golf, sailing and racquet sports, will also now be allowed for people from the ages of 12-60, starting from Monday, June 1.
