Abu Dhabi Airports, the operator of the emirate’s five airports, has partnered with Abu Dhabi University to exchange expertise and encourage training and research projects in support of aviation talent and industry development.

The agreement will see Abu Dhabi Airports provide employment opportunities and internships to Abu Dhabi University’s alumni over the course of three years, which aligns with Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to recruiting local talent, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

The partnership sees Abu Dhabi University joining the ‘Asaas’ programme, Abu Dhabi Airports’ initiative to attract, recruit and train young Emiratis interested in joining the aviation sector.

The agreement was finalised at Abu Dhabi University with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

Engineer Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, MD and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “Our collaboration with leading educational institutions is a testament to our commitment to paving the way for a new generation of Emirati airport management professionals and aviation leaders who, with knowledge and experience, would be able to sustain growth and development of this vital sector in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

“We are pleased to sponsor a specialised academic programme collaborating with Abu Dhabi University to empower the selected candidates with the knowledge that they need to excel in their new career adventure. Our partnership with Abu Dhabi University represents the latest step forward in this direction and we are equally excited about the many other mutually beneficial outcomes that will stem from this collaboration.”

Dr Ali Saeed Al Dhaheri, chairman of Abu Dhabi University, said: “Abu Dhabi University is committed to providing students with unique opportunities that will maximise their skillset and best prepare them for the career market. We look forward to providing development platforms for a new class of aviation sector professionals.”

Abu Dhabi Airports and Abu Dhabi University will share knowledge surrounding airport, ground and flight operations, safety and security management, and environmental impact.

Abu Dhabi Airports staff will be enrolled in academic programmes offered by Abu Dhabi University, while both sides will enjoy other mutual benefits, including the use of technical facilities and involvement in funding opportunities, applied training and research projects, and other educational platforms such as seminars, conferences and lectures.
