Since stepping down as Aramex CEO in 2012 he has dedicated himself to boosting the Middle East and North Africa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem via the Wamda platform and advisory and board roles at MENA Venture Investments, Abraaj Capital, Endeavor Global, the Advisory Council of the MIT Media Lab and the American University of Beirut. Last year Wamda invested in companies including Dubai food tech start-up Lunch:on, comparison site Compareit4me, Turkish marketing platform Insider, Arabic network Kharabeesh, Turkish logistics start-up Kapgel, office supply e-commerce site Officerock and pre-owned luxury shopping app the Luxury Closet. While Ghandour himself announced plans to raise as much as $500m to invest in the regional e-commerce market via a second venture capital fund after reportedly selling his remaining stake in Aramex.
