Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said that it has received around 150 Expressions of Interest (EOI) from contractors to build its first 10 MW solar power plant at the Dhs12 billion Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, official news agency WAM reported.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s managing director and CEO said that he was satisfied with the number of EOIs received from international organisations.

A qualification evaluation process, expected to be completed by end of this month, will identify contractors who can submit bids, said the report.

Electricity generation at the 10 MW project is expected to start by the fourth quarter of 2013, according to the project officials.

With an expected 1,000MW capacity, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, launched earlier this year, is expected to become the largest solar park in the region.

DEWA will manage and operate the overall development of the park, located in Seih Al Dahal on the Dubai to Al Ain road.

The project is part of the diversification efforts of the emirate to build a “green sustainable economy.”
