Emirates launches A380 service to Madrid

Dubai carrier Emirates has launched a daily A380 service to Madrid, significantly increasing its route capacity to Spain.

The airline also claimed to be the first to to offer an A380 service to Madrid.

The new A380 flight will add 2,900 seats per week between Dubai and Madrid, bringing the total number of weekly seats to and from Spain to over 22,000.

“Emirates has carried more than 2.3 million passengers between Dubai and Spain since our launch and the introduction of this A380 will add much needed seat capacity on the route,” said Emirates’ country manager for Spain Fernando Suarez de Gongora.

The capacity expansion on the route is also expected to boost trade links between Spain and the UAE while helping attract tourists from the Far East and Australia.

Emirates’ A380 to Madrid offers 519 seats including 14 first class suites, 76 seats in business class and 429 economy class seats.

The Gulf carrier, which has a fleet of 64 A380s, largely uses the super jumbo jet to boost its passenger network on its existing destinations and to improve connectivity.

Emirates, which is the largest operator of A380s, has launched the superjumbo on eight new routes over the last 12 months.

These include services are to the European cities of Dusseldorf and Frankfurt and between Milan and New York. In December Emirates will also launch an A380 to Copenhagen.

During Eid holidays Emirates boosted its capacity with additional A380 services to Doha and Bahrain. It also recently launched a one-off service to Taiwan.
