Saudi International Petrochemical Co (Sipchem) said on Tuesday it was starting up its new SAR150 million ($40 million) ethylene-vinyl acetate film plant in Saudi Arabia.

The start-up phase will involve testing equipment at the plant, which has annual production capacity of 4,000 tonnes, it said in a statement.

Sipchem owns 75 per cent of the joint venture, Saudi Specialised Products Co, with South Korea’s Hanwha Chemical Corp owning the remainder.

Located in the industrial zone of Hail, the plant will make film used for thin film solar photovoltaic modules.
