Dubai’s roads are replete with uber-luxurious cars, and it’s not hard to spot a gold-plated supercar or possibly, even a diamond–encrusted one.
The emirate even hosted the world’s most expensive car, a gold Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 made from a 500kg solid block of gold. Priced at $7.4 million (Dhs27 million), the car was created by Lamborghini and Robert Gülpen.
Customising a car however, can be a lengthy and costly process and may cost more than an average car itself, according to online vehicle marketplace Carmudi.
The company did a survey and came up with the priciest car add-ons that the ultra-rich are buying in the region.
1. Number 1 License Plate
Price: $14.3 million (Dhs52 million)
With a whopping price tag of $14 million, the world’s most expensive number plate ‘1’, auctioned in the UAE, represents more than just wealth, status or vanity, says Carmudi. It is an investment that quadruples the price of your car.
2. Diamond Encrusted Rims (Wheels)
Price: $1 million (Dhs3.67 million)
Asanti Wheels offers 22-inch wheels studded with diamonds, and also a 24-hour security guard to watch the rims for a whole year.
An Asanti spokesperson said: “With the response we gathered from the public on these rims, we could confidently affirm that our target market is everyone that appreciates art and the art of dreaming.”
3. Rouge Acoustics Audio System
Price: $300,000 (Dhs1.1 million)
The Rouge Acoustics Audio System RA:1K features up to six amplifiers, each reaching 1,000 watts at 8 ohms (bridged) or 500 watts at 4 ohms per channel. The audio maker also ensures that a built-in mobile phone is placed to allow technicians to examine the system from any location around the world if a technical error arises.
4. Diamond Encrusted Shift Knob
Price: $150,000 – $165,000 (Dhs550,953 – Dhs606,048)
Handcrafted with 30-karat genuine diamonds, this knob is more expensive than several new cars. The pricier model, created for the Bentley Continental GT, is finished in white gold.
5. Watch-cum-Car Key
Price: $34,000 (Dhs124,883)
Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre teamed up to create the first mechanical watch, the sapphire crystals –encrusted Jaeger LeCoultre AMVOX2 chronograph, developed with the ability to access the car through the use of a built-in micro transmitter system.
