His highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stood proudly at the Dubai Airshow in November as his airline, Emirates, announced $99 billion worth of orders with Boeing and Airbus, the changing shift in power in the global airline industry clear for all to see. With the opening of Dubai World Central, and Dubai International set to become the world’s largest by international passenger numbers in the coming years, there is no sign of the powerhouse that Sheikh Ahmed has created fading any time soon. On top of his role in the airline industry, Sheikh Ahmed is also deputy chairman of the Dubai Executive Council and chairman of two of Dubai’s largest government vehicles: Emirates NBD and Dubai World as well as Noor Bank and flydubai.
