Dubai contractor Drake & Scull International (DSI) has signed a contract worth around Dhs110 million for the redevelopment of Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

The contract was awarded by Khansaheb Civil Engineering, the main contractor for the project, DSI said in a statement.

Under the agreement, DSI will procure, install, test and commission all the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works at the shopping mall, to be completed by 2015.

Mall of the Emirates recently announced a multi-stage redevelopment project at an estimated cost of Dhs1 billion. The redevelopment, which will include a new fashion district, luxury retail, a sports and leisure precinct, dining concepts and an expansion of its cinemas, will be undertaken in phases.

Work on Phase 1 already, the Dhs100 million fashion district, is already underway and is slated to open to the public in early 2014.

DSI, which was awarded UAE contracts valued at around Dhs1.6 billion in 2013, is targeting Expo 2020 related projects in 2014, the statement added.

Some of its recent projects include a Dhs403 million joint venture agreement with Habtoor Leighton Specon to provide MEP works for the Al Habtoor City in Dubai, a Dhs415 million contract for the Louvre Museum project in Abu Dhabi and a Dhs233 million contract to complete MEP works for the Fairmont Hotel in the UAE capital.
