UAEV, the UAE’s first government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network, will adopt new tariffs for EV charging services starting January 2025.

The move comes after the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure introduced new pricing measures earlier this year, marking a significant step toward enhancing the network’s sustainability and scalability.

Since the announcement of the tariffs last May, EV charging services have remained free of charge.

This transitional period allowed UAEV to refine its operations while ensuring users had equitable access to the service. However, with the new tariffs set to take effect in January, EV users will face standardised and transparent pricing.

The new tariffs are set at Dhs1.2 per kWh (plus VAT) for DC chargers and Dhs0.70 per kWh (plus VAT) for AC chargers.

The pricing structure aims to ensure fair and consistent fees, in line with the growing demand for EV infrastructure across the nation, while supporting the operational excellence of UAEV’s network.

UAEV to introduce mobile app

In addition to the new tariffs, UAEV is introducing a suite of user-centric innovations to enhance the EV experience.

The company will launch a mobile application designed to simplify the process of finding charging stations, tracking real-time station availability, and enabling seamless payments.

UAEV is also rolling out a dedicated 24/7 call center to offer continuous support to users, ensuring an uninterrupted charging experience.

Sharif al Olama, chairman of UAEV, emphasised the significance of these developments, stating, “This marks a transformative step in the UAE’s journey towards sustainable transportation. The implementation of standardised charging tariffs and the launch of innovative solutions like the UAEV app and 24/7 support reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing the EV driver experience. By expanding our network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are driving a cleaner, greener future for all.”

UAEV aims to expand its network to include 1,000 strategically located chargers across urban hubs, highways, and key transit points by 2030.

This expansion will ensure that EV drivers have access to reliable charging stations throughout the UAE, from both inter-city and intra-city routes.
