ADNOC and its AI-focused joint venture, AIQ, announced the launch of ENERGYai, a groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) solution for the energy sector, at the ADIPEC energy conference on Monday.

The “first-of-its-kind” AI platform integrates advanced agentic AI capabilities with large language model technology to enhance ADNOC’s operations and support global energy transformation efforts.

ENERGYai’s design centres around specialised AI “agents” trained on specific tasks across the company’s value chain, ranging from seismic data analysis to real-time process monitoring and energy efficiency management.

These agents are developed to work autonomously and integrate seamlessly into existing workflows, leveraging predictive analytics to improve operational efficiency and accelerate decision-making across the energy major’s portfolio.

ENERGYai is key to ADNOC’s journey

“ENERGYai is a major milestone in ADNOC’s journey to becoming the world’s most AI-enabled energy company,” said UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC CEO Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber. “This solution will harness ADNOC’s data to empower our people and unlock innovative solutions, reinforcing our leadership in sustainable energy.”

Developed by AIQ with technology partners G42 and Microsoft, ENERGYai incorporates OpenAI’s models and the Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) framework.

The project will begin testing on real-world datasets by the end of 2024 and is expected to accelerate geological modelling for CO2 storage by 75 per cent, with further potential to speed up development planning timelines.

“ENERGYai brings real-time, data-driven insights that enhance efficiency, resilience, and sustainability,” said Peng Xiao, CEO of G42. “With ADNOC’s industry expertise and our AI capabilities, we’re laying a foundation for a more sustainable energy future.”

Microsoft’s corporate VP for Energy and Resources, Darryl Willis, highlighted AI’s transformative potential across the energy value chain. “From optimising energy use to accelerating no-carbon solutions, AI-powered tools like ENERGYai can drive economic growth, address energy security, and advance a net-zero future.”

The ENERGYai platform, built with the energy giant’s 80 years of historical data, is expected to set new standards in the energy sector for precision, efficiency, and sustainability.
