Menzies Aviation expands presence in Africa with new cargo facility

Menzies Aviation, the aviation services provider, has opened a new cargo facility at Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Mozambique, marking a significant expansion of its operations in East Africa.

The state-of-the-art warehouse, which officially launched on September 5, enhances the airport’s freight capacity and allows the company to handle cargo for airlines such as Airlink and Qatar Airways.

The facility is equipped with advanced technology, ensuring efficient and safe cargo services, and is expected to boost Menzies’ regional customer base in the coming months.

The new facility aligns with Menzies’ broader vision

The company has been operating at MPM since 2018, offering services like lounge management and ground handling.

The new cargo hub is part of the company’s broader expansion strategy in the region.

AlAnood AlSuwaidi, SVP Cargo (MEAA) at Menzies, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing top-tier services and supporting the East African air cargo sector.

“This cutting-edge facility will allow us to provide best-in-class services to our airline customers while supporting East Africa’s air cargo sector. This represents the next exciting step in our cargo expansion strategy, which has seen us expand our footprint right across the globe,” AlSuwaidi said.

In other news, in July, Menzies Aviation announced the renewal of a major cargo and ground handling contract with the Dutch flag carrier, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).

The company, which was acquired by Kuwait-based Agility in 2022, will provide cargo warehouse and ramp handling services for all KLM/Martinair freighter operations at AMS for the next five years, with this renewed contract representing the company’s largest contract at the main international airport in the Netherlands.

The extension will see teams at the airport manage approximately 600 aircraft turns and handle almost 100,000 tonnes of cargo every year.
