Abu Dhabi hotels receive 2.4 million guests between Jan-May

Recent data from the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi hotels received 2.411 million guests in H1 2024.

The figures, based on statistics from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, were published by state news agency, WAM.

The distribution of hotel guests over the period was as follows: 498.7 thousand in January, 507.4 thousand in February, 433.7 thousand in March, 500.08 thousand in April, and 471.8 thousand in May.

Abu Dhabi H1 hotel revenues

Hotel revenues during this period totalled Dhs3.18bn, with January contributing Dhs629.7m, February recording Dhs717.1m, March registering Dhs608m, April reporting Dhs660.3m  and May netting Dhs566.5m.

Abu Dhabi city accounted for the bulk of the guests, hosting 2.179 million, while Al Ain attracted approximately 169,000 guests, and the Al Dhafra region welcomed around 64,000 guests.

As of the end of May, Abu Dhabi had 169 hotel establishments, offering a total of 34,079 rooms. This includes 126 hotels with 28,600 rooms and 43 hotel apartments with 5,476 rooms.

Number of visitors to the emirate rises in H1

In other news, the number of visitors to Abu Dhabi Airports also reported a 33.5 per cent increase in passenger traffic in H1 2024, with nearly 14 million passengers passing through its terminals between January and June.

Abu Dhabi Airports revealed that Zayed International Airport (AUH) handled over 13.7 million passengers, reflecting a 33.8 per cent rise. The airport also experienced a 24.3 per cent increase in flight movements, with 84,286 recorded during H1 2024.

The statement also noted that Abu Dhabi Airports expanded its customer base by welcoming new airlines and introducing additional routes.

Additionally, passenger traffic at UAE airports increased by 14.2 per cent in H1 2024.

The airports handled over 71.75 million passengers during this period, up from 62.79 million in the same period last year.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director-general of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), credited this substantial growth to ongoing investment in infrastructure development, regulatory improvements, and the advancement of digital transformation in civil aviation.
