DP World, Einride launch region’s biggest autonomous freight deployment

DP World has partnered with freight mobility company Einride to electrify inter-terminal container flows at Jebel Ali Port, named the world’s 1oth busiest port by Alphaliner, a leading source of data, analysis, and insights on the global liner shipping industry, based on total container throughput in 2023.

This will be the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the Middle East, operating 24/7 to reshape the transport ecosystem in the region.

Scheduled to commence by the end of 2024, the initiative will rapidly scale up to facilitate around 1,600 container movements daily. Powered by a fleet of 100 connected electric trucks, managed through Einride Saga, an advanced digital operating system, this project will mark the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the region, operating round-the-clock to redefine transport standards.

Upon reaching full operational capacity, the partnership aims to achieve substantial environmental benefits, including an annual reduction of up to 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and 158 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Our partnership will drive greater operational efficiencies, further decarbonise terminal operations, and pioneer greener practices for the logistics sector.”

The collaboration with DP World is a key component of Einride’s broader initiative with the UAE government, aimed at accelerating the region’s transition towards sustainable shipping.

In other news, DP World has completed the Mina Al Hamriya expansion project, marking a key step in the port’s operational capacity enhancement.

The extensive expansion project includes the construction of an additional 1,150 metres of quay wall, significantly augmenting the berthing capacity for a diverse range of vessels, from traditional dhows to modern breakbulk carriers and Ro-Ro ships.
