Emirates will add an additional daily direct flight between Dubai and Colombo, starting from December 1.

The additional service, operating as EK648/EK649, will increase the number of daily flights between the two cities to three. These include two direct flights and one operating via the Maldivian capital, Male.

The second daily flight will operate direct between the two cities, except during December 16-30, when the service from Dubai to Colombo will stop over in Male.

From December 1 till 15, and from December 31 until March 26, EK648 will depart Dubai at 4.10pm daily and arrive in Colombo at 9.55pm, all times local. Flight EK648 will be routed via Male from December 16 to 30, and will during that period, depart Dubai at 10.30am and arrive in Male at 2.45pm. It will then depart from Male  at 5.15pm and arrive in Colombo at 7.15pm.

Meanwhile, the return flight EK649 is scheduled to depart Colombo at 2.55am and arrive in Dubai at 5.55am, for the duration between December 1 till March 26.

Emirates operates its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration on flights to Colombo. The carrier launched operations to Sri Lanka in 1986 and celebrated 36 years of operations to Colombo earlier this year.

This year, Emirates also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to reaffirm its commitment to Sri Lanka.
