UAE: Huawei Connect 2022 makes regional debut in Dubai

Digital transformation now encompasses every sector. The roles of technology suppliers, service providers and chief information officers have shifted dramatically in the past few years to accommodate new demands for elevated customer experiences.

Regular engagement with stakeholders is an essential aspect of Huawei’s win-win value proposition, stressed the global ICT leaders’ regional team during Huawei Connect 2022.

Being hosted for the first time in the Middle East, Huawei Connect 2022 is a key event on the global ICT calendar where Huawei announces the newest products and solutions, discuss best practices, and explore paths to shared success. The Dubai event brought more than 3,000 industry stakeholders to discuss “Innovative Infrastructure to Unleash Digital”. Representatives from Huawei and other organisations shared their latest digitalisation practices, exploring new paths to industrial digital transformation.

Huawei Connect 2022 was held amid surging interest in digital solutions from the public sector, enterprises, healthcare and education providers, and cities. Ken Hu, Huawei’s rotating chairman, delivered a keynote outlining three ways the ICT ecosystem can help break through common barriers in digital transformation. He highlighted the need to boost digital infrastructure, including more robust connectivity and stronger, more diverse computing resources. He implored technology providers to use their solutions and expertise to help organisations go beyond simple cloud adoption and truly make the most of cloud, focusing on advanced technology services that drive leapfrog development. He also reiterated technology providers’ role in building local digital ecosystems, including partner development, strengthening the digital talent pool, and providing more support for SMEs.

Steven Yi, president of Huawei Middle East and Africa, opened the event and shared three key initiatives of Huawei, its customers and partners to unleash digital productivity. Together, they work to build a solid digital foundation for all and reinforce local digital ecosystems to support the future of digital nations.

Speaking exclusively to Gulf Business, Koh Hong Eng, global chief public sector scientist, highlighted three scenario-based solutions to help organisations accelerate service transformation.

The Huawei Smart Hospital All-Optical Medical Imaging Solution redefines the image reading experience and network standards and systematically solves the problem of poor reading experience through “all-optical network + active-active storage + intelligent interaction + remote consultation”.

“The solution enables hundreds of images to be loaded within seconds, reducing the latency from minutes to seconds. This solves problems like frame freezing caused by network latency and significantly improves doctors’ reading experience. In addition, Huawei’s active-active data centre addresses high requirements for long-term secure storage of medical images, ensuring 24/7 service continuity,” explained Koh Hong.

The Huawei Intelligent Education Converged Campus Network Solution solves problems such as poor wireless experience, complex multi-network collaboration, and difficult deployment and operations and maintenance (O&M) on university campuses, he further added. Huawei leverages wi-fi 6, optical network, intelligent converged network and intelligent O&M technologies to provide customers with all-scenario wireless coverage and enable teaching anytime, anywhere, accelerating the digital journey of colleges and universities.

Koh Hong said: “The Smart Emergency Response Solution, on the other hand, enables all-round aggregation of disaster information, visualised rescue images, and improved backhaul bandwidth for emergency handling and disaster warning of various incidents to comprehensively improve the emergency rescue capability and efficiency, and safeguard people’s lives and property.”

“This emergency broadband rescue network solution is mainly used in disaster rescues where the on-site communication mode has barriers, and the communication and information transmission between departments involved in the rescue are not smooth. As a result, the disaster situation display, command, and dispatch are delayed, making decision-making difficult and inefficient. Huawei’s emergency broadband rescue network solution builds a Gbit/s backhaul circuit to combine fixed and mobile sites, improve backhaul bandwidth, support panoramic video backhaul at rescue sites, and assist in analysis and decision-making.”
