Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), has launched ADAFSA’s strategic plan for 2022-2025.

According to state news agency WAM, Sheikh Mansour said the new strategy aims to motivate the agriculture and food production sectors and increase its contribution to the emirate’s GDP.

It is also aligned with the vision of the UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Abu Dhabi government’s objectives to establish a knowledge-based economy and achieve sustainable agricultural development.

The authority aims to achieve self-sufficiency, which reached 84 percent in nine select food products in 2021.

Sheikh Mansour  said the new strategy represents a future roadmap for establishing sustainable food systems, addresses the sector’s challenges, increases agricultural sustainability rates to 66 percent, and reduces the use of groundwater in agriculture by 500 million cubic metres between 2022 and 2025.

The strategy includes establishing several initiatives to ensure dependence on technology and artificial intelligence and bolster the capacities of the sector.

Additionally it will boost productive partnerships with entities operating in the agriculture and food production sector.

In 2021, Abu Dhabi announced the implementation of a comprehensive agricultural development plan aimed at increasing the efficiency of sustainable agricultural production in the emirate.

The plan, which was announced by ADAFSA, adopted the regional planning principle of the emirate’s farms, so that the similar areas are identified in terms of resources, and development procedures are developed.
