The following are some results of Pattern’s UAE Shopper Report 2022. 74 per cent of online shoppers said, they would spend more on online shopping in 2022. 19 per cent are expected to spend the same, while 6 per cent will spend less, as in 2021. Amazon and Noon touted as favourite online shopping destinations, with more purchases in every category. In consumer electronics, 61 per cent of online shoppers are expected to buy from Amazon and 42 per cent from Noon. While 14 per cent from retailers with both stores and a website. In home and kitchen, 60 per cent are expected to buy from Amazon, 46 per cent from Noon and just 18 per cent from retailers with a store and website. 39 per cent of online shoppers want products delivered the next-day or quicker. While 20 per cent want them delivered the same day. Most shoppers buy from Amazon, with 94 percent purchasing from at least one Amazon site in the last 12 months. 67 per cent of Amazon shoppers have either their own Prime membership or access to someone else’s Prime account. 89 per cent stated that they had purchased a product online that was delivered from another country during 2021. 42 percent said, they purchased a product from a brand that they had never purchased anywhere before. “Online marketplaces are proving to be crucial channels for consumer brands to be visible in the UAE. With shoppers looking to discover new brands and products, and both overall online spending and prime usage forecast to increase, Amazon in particular, is a platform where consumer brands must build a strong presence if they want to grow their sales in the Middle East. If brands want to maximise their exposure and market share, they should also consider a presence on Noon as well,” said Pattern’s MENA General Manager David Quaife. The consumer polling was conducted by One Poll during late 2021 among respondents in the UAE who reported they had shopped online in the previous 12 months. According to consulting firm Kearney, the country’s ecommerce market will grow from $10bn in 2021 to $17bn in 2025.
