Saudi defence forces intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh on Monday evening, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The interception resulted in scattered debris over some residential areas, with no damages reported, SPA stated.

Another armed drone launched from Yemen targeting Khamis Mushait in the southern part of the kingdom was also destroyed, the Saudi-led coalition announced on Monday.

It also posted video footage of both the incidents.

“This vicious, irresponsible behaviour of attempting the deliberate and systematic targeting of civilians and civilian objects by the terrorist militia contradicts all humanitarian principles, and violates the customary international humanitarian law,” the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki said.

“The Ministry of Defence will undertake all necessary and deterrent measures to safeguard civilians and civilian objects, protect its territory and national capacities, and stop these hostile, cross-border acts of aggression,” he added.

Saudi Arabia has faced numerous Houthi attacks in recent months, with the southern part of the country a primary target.

The Abha International Airport in particular has seen numerous drone attacks.

In October, falling debris from a drone shattered the glass of some of the windows at the airport, injuring four workers.

On August 31, a drone attack on the airport injured eight people and damaged an Airbus 320 civilian aircraft.
