Saudi air defence forces intercepted and destroyed an explosive-laden drone launched by Yemen’s Houthis towards Abha International Airport early on Tuesday morning, according to local media reports.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition said that shrapnel was scattered in the vicinity of the airport, but reported no injuries or damage.

“We are taking operational measures to deal with sources of threats to protect civilians and civilian facilities,” the coalition said.

The latest attack comes after the coalition shot down two drones – one targeting Jazan, and the other targeting Najran – on Monday.

In February, another drone attack by the Houthis on Abha airport resulted in a civilian plane catching fire, although there were no reports of any injuries.
