Dubai’s 100-day action plan aims to boost employment of Emiratis in private sector

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, has directed the Emirati Human Resources Development Council in Dubai to develop a 100-day action plan to boost the employment of Emiratis in the private sector.

The 100-day action plan will outline measures to forge a wide range of partnerships with companies, organisations and free zone entities to advance the job prospects of UAE nationals in the private sector, according to a report cited by Dubai Media Office.

It will also include strategies to coordinate with the education sector to link learning outcomes to job market requirements.

The plan will also feature career guidance programmes for students in future-oriented sectors, in alignment with country’s long-term strategies and objectives.

The meeting of the Council was chaired Sheikh Maktoum and held at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Last month, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a decree to establish the Emirati Human Resources Development Council in Dubai which includes representatives from both the public and private sector

Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori was appointed as chair of the council, while the director general of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department was appointed as its vice chairman.

At the meeting on Sunday, Al Mansoori said that the council is engaging closely with the private sector, free zones and the education sector to develop plans to advance the employment prospects of UAE nationals. “We will be proposing new legislations, policies and initiatives to raise employment opportunities for Emiratis across sectors and align their skills with the requirements of the labour market,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Maktoum added: “The UAE’s people are its true wealth and their capabilities are the driving force of its development journey. We are committed to equipping Emiratis with the knowledge and specialised skills needed to thrive in the job market of the future, in close partnership with the private sector.”

The members of the council include the director general of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the director general of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the director general of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, the secretary general of the Dubai Free Zones Council, the director of the University of Dubai; and the director of Zayed University.
Also, it includes a representative each from Emirates NBD, Emirates Group and Al Futtaim Group as well. The representatives from these organisations are nominated by their entities and have a position not below that of an Executive Director.

According to recent data shared by the organisers of the upcoming Expo 2020 Dubai, Emiratis make up 61 per cent of all 18 to 24 year olds among the Expo’s 30,000-strong volunteer workforce, the largest volunteer programme in the UAE.
