Price of Covid-19 PCR tests across Abu Dhabi capped at Dhs65

Abu Dhabi has capped the costs of Covid-19 PCR tests at all healthcare facilities across the emirate at Dhs65.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) called on healthcare facilities to strictly abide by this directive and added that the fixed price for the PCR test is applicable to both regular and urgent services as per the circular number 108 for the year 2021.

DoH stated that if any healthcare provider is not in compliance with this directive, they will be barred from administering PCR tests and will also be fined.

The DoH reiterated that that the cost of the PCR test is to be covered by the individuals themselves if they don’t have any symptoms. In other cases, the cost would be covered by government-funded programmes.

The health regulator recently issued a fine to a healthcare facility for violating the fixed price of the Covid-19 PCR test, according to news agency WAM.

It called upon members of the community to notify the department of any breach of this directive.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said that it had conducted 274,480 additional Covid-19 tests over the preceding 24 hours. There were 1,410 new coronavirus cases detected, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 692,964.

In June, Abu Dhabi approved the use of EDE scanners to detect Covid-19 infections, and rolled them out across several areas within the emirate, following pilot trial at Ghantout entry point, select public locations on Yas Island, and entry/exit points in the Musaffah area.

The scanners can detect a possible Covid-19 infection by measuring electromagnetic waves, which change when the RNA particles of the virus are present in the person’s body, therefore providing an immediate result.

If the scanner identifies a person as being potentially infected with Covid-19, they will not be permitted to enter and must follow the approved protocol and take a PCR test within 24 hours.
