The embassy advised its citizens to abide by the curfew decision

The UAE Embassy in the US has called upon all its citizens in Washington DC to maintain distance from protest areas within.

It has also urged all to abide by the curfew decision, enacted by Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, starting 6pm, January 6 until 6am January 7.

“In an emergency [situation], please call (202) 243-2400,” the UAE embassy tweeted.

The advisory comes in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s supporters who stormed the US Capital building on January 6. Rioters, many bearing Trump garb, breached the barricades set up by police force and swarmed the Capitol, disrupting the certification of President-Elect Joe Biden’s election and forcing the evacuation of Vice President Mike Pence and other lawmakers.

Calm was eventually restored after the National Guard was called out and more than a dozen people were arrested. Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered a curfew and later extended an emergency declaration for 15 days.
