UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has instructed the release of 628 prisoners ahead of the country’s 49th National Day.

The decision aims to offer inmates an opportunity to start afresh, and to alleviate the suffering of their families. Those pardoned had been sentenced for various crimes.

All the financial burdens of the pardoned prisoners such as debts and fines will be paid off, official news agency WAM reported.

In a similar altruistic move, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 49 prisoners to mark the country’s National Day. All the pardoned prisoners demonstrated good conduct during their sentences.
