Home Technology Mobility Tier begins e-scooter service in Dubai after getting RTA nod E-scooters with swappable batteries will be deployed in JLT, Downtown, among other areas by David Ndichu October 27, 2020 Berlin-headquartered TIER is to run an e-scooter service in Dubai, after being picked as one of five micro-mobility service providers by the RTA. Tier’s initial fleet of e-scooters are located at various locations around Dubai including Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown, with other planned locations in the future. Tier’s scooters use swappable batteries that can be swapped on-site, negating the need to transport scooters to warehouses every day for charging. The e-scooters can be accessed via the Tier mobile app. Riders have the option to use ‘pay-as-you-go’ offered at a rate of Dhs1 per minute of usage, or opt for a subscription model. Payments can be made through PayPal or debit and credit cards. Tier’s e-scooters feature a large front wheel, a wide foot plate, dual suspension, a double kick-stand and dual drum brakes for enhanced rider safety. The company says it is carrying out frequent disinfection of its fleet during Covid-19. Tier joins Arnab Skurrt, Careem and Lime in offering last-mile connectivity in Dubai, linking public transport hubs with people’s homes, offices and retail outlets.
