Home Covid-19 New contactless dining platform Opaala launches in Dubai Opaala says it can enable venues cut down on operational costs by working with a skeleton crew by David Ndichu July 21, 2020 A new Dubai-based startup, Opaala, is offering a contactless mobile-based dining platform as F&B players navigate a post-Covid future. Customers scan a QR code, browse through the digital menu where they can place orders, enter dietary requirements, request for the assistance of a waiter, and call for the bill all through their mobile browsers, all without downloading an app. “It is easy for customers to be overlooked when venues are managing high footfall. We wish to enhance the diner’s experience while assisting restaurants with managing their ever-increasing costs,” said Opaala co-founder, Marwan Saab. By eliminating the need for restaurant staff to manage communication with several tables at once, Opaala says it can enable venues to cut down on operational costs by working with a skeleton crew while simultaneously upholding standards of service. Opaala’s platform can be integrated into most POS systems and has already been deployed with Dubai venues such as Nikki Beach Club, Lah Lah Restaurant, Riva Beach Club, Anantara and others, the company says. The platform also offers automatic bill splitting. Customers can complete their order via Apple Pay, debit, and credit cards. Meanwhile, venues can host specials on their interactive menus, or schedule them for future events. These deals allow venues to organically market their offerings in real-time. Opaala is not the first service offering contactless dining experience. In April, Zomato launched a similar service, incorporating contactless menu, contactless ordering and contactless payment. Contactless dining experience reduces health risks by reducing interaction with the waitstaff. Also, by eliminating the need for menu cards and bill books, two articles that are often touched by guests and are typically unsanitised, the process is expected to be safer.
