Home GCC UAE Sheikh Mohammed to announce new UAE government structure The UAE is expected to merge some of its ministries and departments by Aarti Nagraj July 5, 2020 The UAE will announce a new government structure on Sunday, with certain ministries and departments expected to be merged to make it more flexible. The announcement will be made at midday on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai revealed on Twitter. “We announced on May 13, 2020 our intention to review the structure of the Emirates government. We promised to make changes and merge ministries and agencies…to come out with a government that is more flexible, fast and keeps pace with the changes,” he said. الإخوة والأخوات .. أعلنا في 13 مايو 2020 عن نيتنا مراجعة هيكل حكومة الإمارات.. ووعدنا بإجراء تغييرات .. ودمج وزارات وهيئات .. للخروج بحكومة أكثر مرونة وسرعة ومواكبة للمتغيرات .. اعتمدت قبل قليل الهيكل الجديد .. ونعلنه غداً في الثانية عشر ظهراً بإذن الله.. — HH Sheikh Mohammed (@HHShkMohd) July 4, 2020 In May, following the conclusion of a three-day virtual government summit that was convened to develop a post-Covid-19 strategy, Sheikh Mohammed had said that the UAE might merge some of its ministries. “We will review the structure and size of the government and we may merge ministries and change entities,” he said on Twitter at the time. “We need a government that is more agile, flexible, and fast to keep pace with new and different national priorities.” He added: “Anyone who thinks that the world after Covid-19 will be the same as the one before it is mistaken.” The government summit, which saw the participation of over 100 officials and experts, focussed on six major sectors: Health, education, economy, food security, society and government. “We can recover quickly after this pandemic that has afflicted the world … We have great confidence in the Emirates team … We want them to intensify efforts to raise the state’s readiness and enhance its ability to face any emergency in the future, and accelerate the recovery process after this challenge has receded,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
