GCC Covid-19 update: UAE reports 490 new cases, 3 deaths; Saudi registers 1,147 cases

Since the outbreak, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have recorded 7,755 and 11,631 Covid-19 infections respectively

The Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE announced the detection of 490 new Covid-19 cases in the country.

The detection resulted from extensive screening, entailing 30,000 tests.

The total number of cases in the country now tallies 7,755.


The ministry also confirmed the deaths of three individuals, all Asian expatriates, who were suffering from the Covid-19 infection, as well as other chronic illnesses.

The death toll resulting from the virus now stands at 46.

The ministry also confirmed the recovery of 83 additional patients, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,443.

Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia registered a total of 1,147 new coronavirus infections in the kingdom, its highest daily rise since the outbreak.

Of the newly diagnosed cases, Makkah reported 305 infections, followed by Madinah (299) and Jeddah (171).

As many as 11,631 people have now contracted the virus in the kingdom.


The ministry also confirmed six additional Covid-19 related deaths, spiking the death toll to 109.

An additional 150 people have also recovered from the infection, scaling the total number of recoveries to 1,640.

Oman
The country registered a total of 98 new Covid-19 cases, including 39 nationals and 59 non-Omanis, Oman News Agency tweeted on April 21.

A total of 1,508 people in the sultanate have contracted the virus. Of the infectees, eight have succumbed to the disease.

The ministry confirmed that since the outbreak, 238 patients have successfully recovered from the virus strain.

Kuwait 
Kuwait confirmed the detection of 85 new Covid-19 infections as well as two fatalities in the last 24 hours, Kuwait News Agency reported on April 21.

The deaths were of a 59-year-old Bangladeshi male and a 63-year-old Somali man, both of whom were receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

The total Covid-19 infections in the country now tally 2,080 while it’s related demises have increased to 11.

Qatar
The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar has reported 518 new cases of the coronavirus infection on Tuesday, increasing the number of total cases to 6,533.
