Emirates introduces remote check-in terminal in Dubai for cruise travellers

During the next six months, 198 cruise ships are expected to arrive at Port Rashid and nearly 280,000 passengers will have onward Emirates flights

Dubai carrier Emirates has launched its first remote check-in terminal for cruise passengers.

Emirates check-in counters at Port Rashid will allow cruise passengers to disembark and check-in for their onward Emirates connections at the same location.

Boarding passes will be issued up to four hours before flight departure. The facility will be functional during the sailing period from October to April.

During the next six months, 198 cruise ships are expected to dock at Port Rashid where close to 280,000 passengers will have onward Emirates flight connections, a statement said.

“With the increasing popularity of Dubai as a cruise tourism destination, we have ensured that every touch point in our customer journey for this important traveller segment is thoughtfully served,” said Mohammed Mattar, divisional senior vice president, Emirates Airport Services.

“Our first remote check-in facility at Port Rashid will allow cruise passengers with onward flights the freedom to explore Dubai during their short transit having dropped their luggage and completed check-in formalities.”

The facility follows Emirates’ home check-in service launched last year, allowing its passengers to check in to flights from anywhere in Dubai for a fee. Additionally, for passengers keen to explore the city, Emirates offers a luggage storage facility where tourists can leave their bags.

Emirates also offers a home delivery service where it retrieves passengers’ luggage, clears it at customs and has it delivered to them.
