YouTube Music comes to Middle East

Spotify and Apple Music competitor now available in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and Saudi Arabia

Gulf Business

Most of us have been there: you’re on YouTube, looking for new music you can play in the background while you work, cook, or do whatever it is you’re doing. The problem: it’s YouTube, meaning there’s also a video to watch to go with it that you really could care less about.

Now there’s an alternative. YouTube has launched its music streaming service, YouTube Music, in the Middle East.

The service – available for both Android and Apple mobile devices – is currently available in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and Saudi Arabia. It was launched on September 10.

The basic version of the streaming service costs about Dhs20 (Dhs19.99 to be precise) per month, while an ad-free version is Dhs24 per month.

The Middle East expansion brings the number of countries worldwide where YouTube Music is available to about 70. Regionally, as elsewhere across the planet, it faces stiff competition from market leaders Spotify and Apple Music.
