Home GCC UAE UAE grants first set of long-term visas to 20 scientists, researchers The UAE announced late last year that it would grant 10-year residency visas to certain expatriates by Staff writer January 17, 2019 The UAE government has granted the first batch of long-term visas to 20 scientists who were the winners and finalists of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence. The announcement came following the second annual meeting of the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists, which saw over 150 scientists attend from around the world, official news agency WAM reported. Those granted the 10-year visas primarily include professors working at Khalifa University and UAE University as well other academics and researchers. Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, minister of State for Advanced Sciences, said: “The granting of long-term resident visas to scientists and researchers is a reflection of the UAE leadership’s vision to enhance the country’s position as a destination for creative minds and talents. “We look forward to continuing our efforts towards attaining the UAE’s goal of becoming a global scientific hub, and providing an environment conducive to scientific advancement while building an integrated scientific community capable of meeting all future development needs,” she added. The UAE cabinet issued a decision in November 2018 to issue longer-term residency visas to certain expats. The country said it will grant 10 year residency visas will be granted to investors, entrepreneurs, specialists in the medical, scientific, research and technical fields, while five or 10-year visas will be granted to ‘outstanding’ students.
