He became well known for his commentaries on the Arab Spring, and has written extensively for publications including The Guardian and Foreign Policy. Also the founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation, Al Qassami is a long-term advocate and supporter of the arts. Last year he was added to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s board of trustees, made waves with his self-imposed break from social media, and called for a law in the UAE to protect modern architecture.
