UAE postpones good conduct requirement for some workers

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has delayed the implementation of a new good conduct certificate requirement for some workers until June, according to reports.

The emirates introduced the new regulation on February 4 saying it would improve security.

It applies to all foreigners seeking work in the UAE but not those with existing visas that are switching jobs, dependents of workers, students and tourists.

The National reports that the ministry issued a circular to Tasheel service centres postponing the requirement for domestic workers from the Philippines and Indonesia.

All other workers will need to provide a certificate from each country they have resided in over the last five years.

The document or documents must be certified by UAE missions abroad or through the attestation centres at customer happiness centres for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The costs of this are Dhs100 ($27) for UAE nationals, Dhs200 ($54) for UAE residents and Dhs300 ($82) for people outside of the country, with additional knowledge and innovation fees of Dhs10 each also added on.

Tasheel centres that fail to abide by the new requirement will be punished.
