Kuwait’s parliament approves expansion of leave allowance for workers

Kuwait’s National Assembly parliament yesterday approved amendments to the country’s labour law expanding holiday entitlements for public and private sector employees.

Kuwait Times reports that the amendments will mean private sector workers will be able to take 30 days of annual leave exclusive of the Friday weekend, sick leave and public holidays.

New employees will be entitled to the leave after at least six months of work and in agreement with the employer.

Further amendments stipulate that Kuwaiti workers employed in the private sector will be entitled to their full end of service benefits without deducting instalments paid to the Public Institution of Social Security.

MPs suggested Kuwaitis needed more protection in the private sector, which was deemed not to provide sufficient stability to nationals, according to the publication.
