Two Dubai hospitals to put tracking gadgets on newborns

Two hospitals in Dubai are set to introduce new gadgets that will be strapped to newborns to track their movement, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has announced.

The gadgets will link babies with their mothers and the hospital, so if anyone attempts to move the baby without authorisation, the mother and hospital will be alerted.

The device, which straps around the baby’s leg, is being rolled out in Dubai Hospital and Latifa Hospital.

The DHA is also introducing another system designed to monitor oxygen levels in a child’s blood and alert the mother and hospital staff if it drops below normal.

Humaid Al Qatami, chairman the DHA, said that the authority proposes to enable hospitals, healthcare centers, and clinics to provide the best services with the latest smart technologies.

He also said that mothers and childcare are the main targets of the authority’s 2016-2017 strategy. The DHA plans to implement a number of programmes, with the goal of benefitting mothers and children in all its facilities.

Speaking at Latifa hospital, Al Qatami also stressed the importance of constantly training health caregivers and specialists in order to enable them to provide quality services.
