Kuwait invites interest in labour city project

Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has invited local and international firms to submit Statements of Qualification for the South Jahra Labour City project.

The announcement was published in the official gazette yesterday, according to state news agency KUNA.

Under the terms, Kuwait Municipality will be responsible for providing water, electricity, sewage and roads infrastructure connecting to the project and with making sure the site is obstacle free.

The project winner will handle design and finance and build, operate, maintain and transfer the venture, which will come under the country’s public private partnership law.

A public joint stock company will also be established for the project, with the successful private investor holding at least 26 per cent of the shares.

KAPP said the terms of the agreement with Kuwait Municipality would be 40 years including three for design, finance and construction of all infrastructure assets.

South Jahra Labour City comprises residential areas, commercial and neighbourhood services, community and municipal and utility services with a total land area of more than 1 million square metres.

Once completed the project will provide housing for 20,000 low-income male foreign workers.

KAPP said companies and consortia would be pre-qualified based on financial , development and technical criteria.
