Here are seven megaprojects that were unveiled and deployed in 2023 1. Etihad Rail: Reshaping transport and economy Key details: The UAE’s national railway network currently connects major cities, industrial zones, and ports. Its ambitions are transnational with a Oman-UAE track in the works. The freight network is expected to transport about 60 million tonnes of cargo across the UAE by 2030 and provide investment worth Dhs50bn and Dhs200bn in economic opportunities. Plans for a passenger rail service are underway, to link 11 cities and regions, from Al Sila to Fujairah. 2. Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park: Largest single-site solar park Highlight: Inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the 900 MW fifth phase will power around 270,000 residences in Dubai, significantly reducing carbon emissions. 3. Abu Dhabi Airport Terminal A: A boon to tourism and economy Impact: Doubles the airport’s passenger capacity, catering to 45 million travellers yearly, with flights to 117 destinations. Features advanced technologies for passenger screening and luggage handling. 4. Palm Jebel Ali: Luxury Lifestyle Mega Project Revival: Nakheel’s project, twice the size of Palm Jumeirah, aims to create 80 hotels and resorts, offering beachside living to 35,000 families. Part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. 5. Atlantis The Royal: An Iconic Luxury Living Key details: Comprising six towers and offering ultra-luxurious amenities including private pools, wellness haven, and 17 restaurants and bars. Officially inaugurated with a celebration featuring Beyoncé. 6. One Za’abeel: Symbol of Dubai’s pioneering spirit Accomplishment: Welcoming homeowners to ultra-luxury apartments at The Residences, two months ahead of schedule. A mixed-use development with grade-A offices, retail spaces, and a world-class resort. World’s biggest cantelevered bridge connecting two wings. 7. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi: A Marine life extravaganza Features: A state-of-the-art marine life theme park boasting animal encounters, educational presentations, and interactive rides. First SeaWorld outside the US, aiming to promote environmental awareness and conservation of marine life.
