Dubai has introduced mobile Covid-19 vaccination units in order to meet its objective of vaccinating 100 per cent of eligible adults by the end of this year.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), has begun conducting Covid-19 vaccination drives across the city using mobile clinics deployed as part of the Wellness on Wheels (WoW) initiative.

A total of two WoW mobile clinics staffed by 11 nurses and doctors from DHA along with employees from MBRU have begun administering doses of DHA approved vaccines across 11 points.

Until now, it has been been conducted at various locations including Al Garhoud Private Hospital; Oilfields Supply Center Ltd.; SRG Holding Sheraton Grand; DP World; American Hospital Dubai; McDermott Middle East and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

It will be subsequently extended to more locations across the emirate. Within less than a month since the launch of the initiative, a total of 7,688 people have already availed of the service and received their Covid-19 vaccination via these WoW mobile clinics, reported state-run Dubai Media Office.

Each mobile clinic is staffed by volunteer healthcare professionals, with the initiative aiming to hold more than 300 outreach events by 2025, bringing healthcare services including consultation, dental, occupational health and referral services to more than 100,000 beneficiaries across Dubai and the UAE.

“Wellness on Wheels is the first charitable mobile healthcare clinic funded by the community. The Wellness on Wheels mobile clinics are fully capable of administering the Covid-19 vaccine as per DHA standards,” said Dr. Amer Mohammed Al Zarooni, deputy vice chancellor of Administration and Professional Services, MBRU and Supply Chain Team Leader, Dubai Covid-19 Command and Control Center, and Director of the Wellness on Wheels Program at MBRU.

Recently, Dubai expanded the eligibility criteria for those receiving the vaccine. All valid Dubai resident visa holders aged 40 and above can now register to receive Covid-19 vaccinations at DHA facilities. Those aged 60 and above with a valid resident visa issued in any emirate within the UAE, can also register for the vaccine, provided they can prove they reside in Dubai.

Also, GCC nationals with a valid Emirates ID can also get vaccinated at DHA facilities.
