Home Climate Uber’s new ‘green’ feature helps riders track emissions The Emission Savings feature not only allows users to see their environmental impact but also provides insights into how their choices contribute to a greener future by Gulf Business March 14, 2024 Images: Uber In a key move to enabling sustainability, Uber has introduced a useful feature that lets riders track their carbon emissions. The ride-hailing platform is rolling out the ‘Emission Savings’ feature worldwide to empower riders to embrace a low-emissions lifestyle. “We’re on a mission to make it effortless for our riders to live a low-emissions lifestyle,” says Dara Khosrowshahi, the company’s CEO. “Just like we popularised rider ratings to promote respectful behaviour during Uber rides, we’re excited to launch the Emission Savings feature to both celebrate your impact and encourage greener choices when using the service.” Image courtesy: Uber Track your emissions on the Uber App Users can access this feature directly within the app. By simply tapping into the ‘Account’ section, riders can discover the estimated CO2 emissions they’ve saved by opting for Uber Green rides. The feature not only allows users to see their environmental impact but also provides insights into how their choices contribute to a greener future. By visualising the CO2 emissions saved and comparing them to everyday equivalents, riders gain a deeper understanding of their role in reducing carbon footprints. Moreover, the company is transparent about how emissions are calculated. The emission savings for the ‘green’ trips represent the estimated amount of CO2 emissions avoided compared to an UberX of the same distance. This methodology ensures accuracy and reliability in tracking environmental contributions. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand the Emission Savings feature to include more products, such as all-electric autonomous rides booked through the app. This commitment aligns with the company’s vision to become a zero-emissions mobility platform. “We’re committed to becoming a zero-emissions mobility platform, and today is an important step in our journey,” added Khosrowshahi. “We aim to inform riders about the estimated emissions they’ve saved and the positive impact they’re making in their communities, contributing to strategic initiatives such as Net Zero 2050 in the UAE.” Tags Climate green rides mobility Sustainability transport Uber You might also like Eid Al Etihad 53: Dubai Police issues strict guidelines for public safety Dubai: This is how much you’ll pay for parking from March 2025 Insights: Building a greener future for the Middle East Riyadh Metro to kick off first phase on Nov 27, includes 3 lines
