Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) celebrated a milestone as it crossed the mark of serving over 50 million passengers within a rolling 12-month period.

This significant achievement marks a first for the airport.

This record reflects the airport’s strategic growth and its key role as a global aviation nexus.

The airport attributes its success to a rising influx of international visitors to Doha, which soared by 58 per cent in 2023 compared to the previous year, as outlined in the latest tourism report by Qatar Tourism.

In 2023 alone, the airport welcomed three new airline partners, with an additional four joining within the first four months of 2024.

The airport served 255 destinations in 2023, including passenger, cargo, and chartered flight destinations.

In Q1 2024, the airport witnessed a 27.6 per cent increase in passenger traffic, totalling 13,171,540 passengers.

Aircraft movements rose by 23.9 per cent compared to the previous year, with a total of 69,959 arrivals and departures.

Cargo operations thrived, handling over 626,338 tonnes of cargo and managing 10,457,444 bags, including 7,210,079 transfer baggage.

Recent accolades

Determined by factors such as destination count, service frequency, and connection quality, Doha secured the second-best air connectivity status in the Middle East, as revealed by the Airport Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and Middle East Air Connectivity Ranking 2023.

This success is partly due to the airport’s robust facilities and services that have enabled major airlines to operate from the hub and their extensive global networks.

The index also highlights a steady uptick in air connectivity across the Middle East, advocating for the development of new airport infrastructure to meet burgeoning demand.

Aligning with this trend, Hamad International Airport is undergoing the second phase of its expansion project, aimed at augmenting passenger capacity and enhancing lifestyle offerings, in line with its growth trajectory.

Hamad International Airport is named the world’s best airport for 2024

In April, Hamad International Airport was named the world’s best airport, according to aviation website Skytrax.

The airport is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this month. Immersive activations were held across the airport, highlighting Qatar’s rich cultural heritage and those of destinations around the world.
