GITEX GLOBAL 2023: Dubai Police unveils virtual cop, luxury marine and self-driving patrol vehicles

Amna, the futuristic virtual officer of Dubai Police, received significant attention from visitors at the GITEX Global Technology Exhibition 2023 held at the Dubai World Trade Center.

Attendees eagerly posed inquiries to her in both Arabic and English.

Khadija Flamurzi from the General Department of Artificial Intelligence mentioned that the virtual officer Amna holds the rank of first lieutenant.

“Amna is available on the Dubai Police website and addresses public inquiries about police services, such as paying traffic fines or reporting incidents, among other services,” she said.

Ms Flamurzi explained that Officer Amna operates as a software based on executing user transactions via voice commands using artificial intelligence technologies. “This feature was realised through the collaborative efforts of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence and other departments aiming to transition all their public services to voice-command interfaces,” she concluded.

Dubai Police is also showcasing its ‘Luxurious Marine Patrol’, designed to rapidly respond to marine incidents and provide immediate and emergency rescue operations.

Major General Khaled Nasser Al Razooqi, director of the Artificial Intelligence Department at Dubai Police, emphasised that the marine patrol’s participation in the GITEX Global Technology Week aligns with the directives of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, and display the latest innovations in ensuring security, safety, and rapid response to incidents.

Dubai Police Marine Patrol

Brigadier Dr Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, director of the Ports Police Station, said the patrol is among the entity’s luxurious marine vehicles. 

“It significantly contributes to the rescue efforts carried out by marine security and rescue teams due to its swift response capabilities, underscoring its vital role in saving lives,” he said. 

The modern patrol boasts features like a top speed of 45 knots per hour and houses an automatic engine with four speeds, having a capacity of 1800 cc.

The total weight of the patrol is 320 kilograms, with a maximum weight limit of 625 kilograms, and can accommodate two passengers.

Brigadier Al Suwaidi highlighted that the patrol would be deployed in water channels, lake areas, islands, and tourist spots. 

“This deployment ensures constant readiness to address various marine reports and emergencies around the clock,” he concluded.

Self-driving security patrol

Dubai Police also unveiled its self-driving security patrol aimed at enhancing safety in residential areas.

Lieutenant Rashid bin Haidar from the Dubai Police’s General Department of Administrative Affairs introduced the eco-friendly, fully electric patrol vehicle to the exhibition visitors. The vehicle’s battery lasts up to 15 hours and can reach speeds of 5-7 kilometres per hour.

Designed specifically for residential zones, the patrol’s main objective is to boost security coverage. It features an advanced camera with a 360-degree capture capability. Additionally, with its smart technology and artificial intelligence, the vehicle can detect criminal behaviour, recognize faces, and read car license plates.

The patrol is also equipped with direct communication technologies, allowing it to liaise in real-time with the Command and Control Center at the Dubai Police’s General Operations Department.

Lieutenant Rashid said the patrol includes an onboard drone. “This drone can access areas the vehicle cannot and maintains direct wireless communication with the patrol once launched.”

In other news, participating as part of the Digital Dubai Pavilion at GITEX GLOBAL 2023, Dubai Land Department’s Rental Dispute Center (RDC) launched its ‘Metaverse Litigation’, a new virtual platform that uses metaverse technology for real estate litigation sessions.

The RDC also unveiled its ‘Judicial Probe’ service. This innovative concept, now accessible via the new website, constitutes an integrated court that harnesses the power of AI to offer the complete portfolio of the centre’s litigation services.
