The UAE has postponed school bus operations for all public and private nurseries, kindergartens and schools as in-person learning resumes nationwide from Monday, April 20, 2026.
The Ministry of Education said the temporary suspension is part of operational arrangements designed to ensure transport services meet the highest safety standards before resuming.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the ministry said the delay will allow for full coordination with transport authorities and municipalities to complete readiness measures. “This will ensure service readiness in accordance with the highest safety standards,” the statement said.
Authorities added that the move is part of ongoing efforts to guarantee smooth and safe school transport operations across all emirates. The measure will be reviewed weekly, with updates on the resumption of bus services to be announced through official channels.
Schools and universities resume in-person learning
Despite the transport delay, the Ministry confirmed that all students, staff and administrative personnel will return to campuses following the completion of facility preparedness, staff training and updated safety protocols. “This reinforces a safe and reassuring learning environment for students and their families,” the ministry said.
Private schools will retain flexibility to implement hybrid rotational models where necessary, depending on readiness and regulatory approvals, a WAM report said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced a similar return for universities and colleges, citing completed readiness plans and enhanced safety procedures. Some institutions may continue hybrid or distance learning options where required. “This ensures smooth academic implementation while maintaining safety and flexibility,” officials said.
