Emaar Properties is set to construct a new retail center as part of its Dubai Creek Harbour project. This retail hub could potentially surpass the size of the iconic Dubai Mall, revealed Mohamed Alabbar, Emaar Properties founder, while discussing the new retail project at the recently concluded Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival.

Alabbar said, “We are not building the biggest in the world but definitely we are creating one of the most interesting avenues…”

A report by MEED, quoted a source close to the project saying that the retail center, still in its early design phase, might be more than double the size of Dubai Mall. However, it’s emphasised that Emaar aims to create a distinct concept, avoiding competition with Dubai Mall.

Alabbar also spoke at length about the Emaar Creek Tower to be built at Dubai Creek which has undergone considerable design changes. He described it as a more refined structure compared to previous plans. He indicated that construction has commenced on the tower, which will be shorter than the Burj Khalifa.

He compared the new philosophy behind the tower, which will be the main feature of the vast six square kilometer project, to Paris’ Eiffel Tower.

Alabbar explained that while Emaar makes money from selling apartments with great views in their beautiful skyscrapers, the main tower of this project won’t directly earn money. He shared plans to change the tower’s design, mentioning it won’t be as tall as originally thought. He hinted that when revealed, the tower will have a special connection with the iconic Burj Khalifa, comparing them to a “male and female” pair.
