Women-only parks to open in Saudi’s Jeddah

Other women-only recreational areas are also planned

Local government officials in the Saudi city of Jeddah will soon open two women-only public parks, according to reports.

The Makkah Arabic publication cited sources as saying the parks would be positioned near the Falak square and in Prince Fawaz housing district in the city’s south.

They will include recreational facilities and walkways and are expected to be opened in the coming months under Jeddah municipality management, according to the publication.

The parks form part of the municipality’s plans for women only recreational areas and other infrastructure to encourage walking. It is also constructing 10 new pavements in various parts of the city.

Under its Vision 2030 diversification plan Saudi Arabia is seeking to encourage women to take a more active role in society by entering the workforce.

Women only gyms are also planned across the kingdom, according to reports in February
